Goodyear plans to shut down its tire plant in Kariega, South Africa as part of a restructuring program for the company's operations in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region. The factory, built, in 1947, produces passenger car, light truck, OTR, and industrial tires, with a capacity of 10,000 units/day, according to Tire Business. Goodyear did not provide a timeline for the shut down. The move will leave South Africa with three remaining tire plants operated by Bridgestone, Continental, and Sumitomo Rubber.
