According to an article in the Hamilton Spectator, Canada’s Ministry of the Environment is ordering Columbian Chemicals to study whether its monitoring equipment at its carbon black plant in Hamilton, Ontario is adequate to detect small releases of powdered carbon black. The order comes as the ministry investigates the source of recent black fallout in the area earlier this month. Columbian is cooperating with the ministry in evaluating its monitoring systems. The review of these systems is scheduled to be completed by September 30.
