Bridgestone announces tire technology for determining road conditions

In a September 13 press release, Bridgestone Tokyo announced that it has developed technology to provide real time road surface condition information to the driver by way of the tires. The technology, based on a concept called Contact Area Information Sensing (CAIS), will be on display at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt September 13-15 Sept 2011. The technology includes alerting the drive to dangerous driving conditions, such as ice, snow, and rain. The information is transmitted directly to the driver through an in-car display.
