In October 2011, Taiwan-based Oriental Silicas Corporation acquired Japan-based Tokuyama’s precipitated silica business, consisting of Tokuyama’s 20% equity share in OSC Taiwan and 52% share in TSSC (Tokuyama Siam Silica Co.) in Thailand. The ownership change went into effect on February 29, 2012, and on March 1, 2012 OSC changed the name of TSSC to OSSC (Oriental Siam Silica Co.). The silica business, which is now owned 100% by OSC, consists of five production sites: two in China, one in Taiwan, and two in Thailand. The factories continue to produce precipitated silica under the TOKUSIL and FINESIL brand names.
