Pyrum's Greek pyrolysis project receives €30M EU grant

This week, Pyrum Innovations AG announced that funding for a planned tire pyrolysis plant in Greece had been fully secured following an EU grant to its partner, Thermo Lysi SA. The grant from the European Innovation Fund totals €29.4 million will help to fund the facility located in the Livantes region, about 140 km north of Athens. In a press release, Pyrum said that all of the necessary building and environmental permitting had already been completed, and that engineering was in full swing. Pyrum and Thermo Lysi signed an engineering contract in May 2025. The plant will consist of six Pyrum reactors with a total capacity of 45,000 tons of end-of-life tires per year, which is twice as large as originally planned. Total investment in the project amounts to around €100 million, and Pyrum intends to acquire a stake of at least 10% in the project company's equity.

In a separate development, Pyrum Innovations plans to hold a ground-breaking ceremony for a new tire pyrolysis plant in Perl-Besch, Germany on November 15, 2025. The facility will have 22,000 tons of capacity for end-of-life tires, and will consist of a shredder plant, three Pyrum reactors, a power plant, and a pelletizer. The plant is expected to be commissioned in 2027.
